With the rapid development of Internet of Things technology, more and more terminals need to provide network services. It is becoming more and more difficult to supply power to various intelligent terminals by using traditional high-power mode. The popularization of power over Ethernet (PoE) technology is one by one solving the power supply problems of various intelligent terminals. At present, PoE technology has been extensively applied from traditional application scenarios such as WLAN, network monitoring, IP telephone to new retail, IoT (Internet of Things), intelligent city and other scenarios. It has the characteristics of low cost, convenient construction, stable power supply and high efficiency of operation and maintenance. This paper will combine the development process of PoE technology. It describes the principle of PoE technology.
PoE technology can be used to transmit data signals and provide DC power supply for IP-based terminals (such as IP telephony, wireless AP, network monitoring, etc.) without any modification of the existing Ethernet wiring structure, and maintain compatibility with existing Ethernet and users. In this way, it is not necessary to add such procedures as grooving, pipe laying, threading, debugging, wall and ground beautification in the construction environment, which greatly shortens the construction period and reduces the cost.
Several role definitions in PoE power supply system:
Power Supply Equipment (PSE): Power Sourcing Equipment, which supplies power to terminals;
Power Device, the terminal that needs power supply.
Nowadays, PoE technology has been widely used in intelligent cities, IoT and other industries. I believe that in the near future, PoE technology will get greater development and breakthroughs. With 802.3bt officially approved this year (expected to be officially released in 2019), higher power terminals will soon be widely used, which will help the rapid development of the IoT industry.
