Point to Point Protocol
Dec 03, 2018

Point-to-point protocol (PPP) provides a standard method for transmitting multi-protocol data packets over point-to-point connections. PPP was originally designed to provide an encapsulation protocol for IP traffic transmission between two peers. In TCP-IP protocol set, it is a data link layer protocol for synchronous modulation connection (the second layer in OSI mode), which replaces the original non-standard second layer protocol, SLIP. PPP can also carry other protocols besides IP, including Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) of DECnet and Novell.
